Mari Lwyd returns to Llanfihangel tor y Mynydd 2023
Some 50 local revellers joined a group from Yr Hyddgen, a history and cultural society from Cwmbran, in the Star on the Hill on the 6th of January to welcome this year's Mari Lwyd.
Finally, Yr Hyddgen presented their version with elaborate costumes and singing accompanied by violin and pipes. More songs brought the joyful evening to an end with both groups already beginning preparations for next year's Mari.
Next year will see the 25th consecutive Llanfihangel Mari which became a model for such celebrations as the Chepstow Mari; an event that grew in numbers each year becoming so popular that it has now been cancelled due to crowd control issues. That cancellation need not worry locals who can now mark their calendars for the 6th of January 2024 when the Mari Lwyd will, once again, return to Llanfihangel tor y Mynydd. |
We will see you next year on the 6th of January.
